Dr. Fathyah Whba completed her bachelor's degree in physics, physics department, Faculty of Applied Science, Taiz University, Yemen with an accumulative grade of 82.50% (first class), very good with honor in 2008. Afterwards, she was appointed a lecturer in the Physics Department, Faculty of Applied Science, Taiz University, from 2009 to 2014. After that, she got a scholarship from Yemeni government to study master studies and a PhD. In 2017, she earned a master's degree in Physics Science from the School of Applied Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), with an overall grade of 3.94 (first class), excellent with honour. She finished her PhD program at the Nuclear Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) under the Yemeni government and Islamic Development Bank scholarships in 2023. Her research interest in nuclear sciences (medical physics) covers the Synthesis and Characterization of Cellulose Nanocrystals/Gadolinium Oxide Nanocomposite as a dual Contrast Agent for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. She has published papers in an international refereed journal. In 2008, the president of the Republic of Yemen gave her a prize for doing well in her bachelor's studies. In addition, the National Organization for Community Development (NODS)-Yemen granted her a diploma in English and computers with the support of the excellent student program in 2008. Furthermore, she has received a lot of distinctions and appreciation certificates. Dr. Whba is an exceptionally talented and motivated scientist. She has a deep understanding of the chemistry and physics of nanomaterials, and she is skilled in a variety of synthetic and analytical techniques. During her PhD, she developed a new method for synthesizing high-quality nanocrystals with controlled size and morphology. She also developed new methods for functionalizing these nanocrystals with MRI contrast agents. Her work has resulted in more than five high-impact publications in quartile 1 journals, and she has presented her research at several international conferences. In addition to her strong scientific skills, Dr. Whba is also an excellent communicator and collaborator. She is able to clearly and concisely explain her research to both scientists and non-scientists alike. She is also a team player and is always willing to help others.

    Research Interest:

Synthesis: Polymers; Nanocomposite, Organic and inorganic materials

Characterization Techniques: Analytical techniques to understand the properties, structure, and behaviour of the material

Contrast Agent Development: Designing a material that can enhance the contrast in MRI images. Gadolinium oxide is commonly used as a contrast agent in MRI due to its magnetic properties

Biomedical Applications: MRI contrast agent; diagnosis; Radiotherapy

Material Science: Study of materials at the nanoscale

     Medical Imaging: MRI scans

Chemical Engineering: Synthesis and modification of the nanocomposite material

Radiation: Effects on materials, especially at the nanoscale
